A new estate agent board recycling service was introduced on 1 September 2010.

All companies aspire to have green credentials and enjoy the many benefits that can be associated with being environmentally responsible. Estate agent boards are made of Correx which is a thermoplastic polymer known as polypropylene. This material can be difficult to recycle locally so damaged boards tend to end up in landfill through either the commercial or domestic refuse streams. Polypropylene can take up to 500 years to degrade so the estate and letting agent industry need to take responsibility for the huge quantity of boards that come to the end of their usable life.

Why is the service needed?

• Legal.  All businesses have a Duty of Care under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to take all reasonable steps to keep waste safe and arrange for its legal disposal.
• Moral. We have a moral responsibility to try and reduce and ultimately eliminate all waste plastic being placed into the ground and for it to be re-used effectively.
• Publicity. Companies with effective environmental strategies can use this as a strong sales point. Again, this will become more and more important in the future.

The Service

To comply with the regulations, all waste polypropylene will be collected from your office once it is damaged beyond use and a suitable quantity has been collated. We are an accredited waste storage facility licensed by the Environment Agency. The damaged boards will be cleaned, baled and transported to an approved recycling centre. The waste will be granulised and the re-used in applications such as garden furniture. Appropriate copies of the Duty of Care and waste transfer documents will be supplied.
